V shape face

What is a V-Shape Face?
A V-shaped face describes a facial contour where the lower face tapers naturally towards the chin, creating a balanced and well-defined profile. It is characterised by smooth facial proportions, a refined jawline, and harmonious transitions between the cheeks, jaw, and chin.
While facial shape is largely influenced by genetics, the appearance of the jawline is also affected by muscle activity, skin quality, facial volume, and the underlying facial skeleton.
For many individuals, achieving a V-shaped appearance is not about changing the face dramatically. It’s about restoring balance, improving definition, and supporting the natural facial framework.
Why Does Jawline Become Less Defined?
A less defined jawline is rarely caused by a single factor. Instead, it often results from a combination of anatomical and age-related changes that affect multiple layers of the face.
Overactive Masseter Muscles
The masseter muscles, located at the angle of the jaw, play an important role in chewing. In some individuals, these muscles become enlarged due to genetics, teeth grinding, or habitual jaw clenching. When the masseter muscles become overly developed, the lower face may appear wider and more square.
A Retruded or Recessed Chin
The chin plays a significant role in facial balance and profile. A chin that projects less prominently can make the jawline appear shorter, softer, or less defined, even in individuals with otherwise good skin quality.
Skin Laxity and Facial Sagging
As collagen declines and the skin loses elasticity, the lower face gradually loses definition. Loose skin and descending soft tissues may contribute to jowls and a less sculpted jawline.
Volume Redistribution
Age-related changes in facial fat compartments can reduce support in the mid-face while allowing tissues to descend into the lower face, further blurring the jawline.
